Does it feel impossible to concentrate on the things you are supposed to finish? Here are some simple tricks to improve your focus, easily.

Forget multi-tasking.

Multi-tasking might seem like a good thing but it can make it harder to concentrate. Most researchers say our brains are not able to multi-task at all! So, try to focus on getting one task finished before moving on to the next one.

Enjoy the silence.

Plan your day in advance. If you have things you need to focus on and know you are most alert in the mornings, come into the office early so you can make the most out of the quiet hours. Save the more social tasks for the afternoon when everyone’s around. If you find it hard to concentrate, try listening to music or get a pair of noise cancelling headphones.

Eliminate distractions.

That is, the internet. Social media, emails and constant messages can be a huge distraction. Turn off your browser and put your phone on mute, if you know your willpower will not be strong enough. Read more on how to deal with technology.

Take structured breaks.

A good way to get things done is to set strict times for work and breaks in between. Try the Pomodoro technique: you work intensively and without any distractions for 25 minutes (exactly 25, and you drop whatever it is you’re doing when the time is up) and take a short break (for going to the toilet or getting coffee). After completing 4 Pomodoros, you take a longer break.
