Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 28 January 2003 at 09:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä hands over its 2000th Wärtsilä 20 diesel engine today. The 9-cylinder engine will be delivered from the Vaasa factory in Finland to the Aker MTW Werft GmbH shipyard in Wismar, Germany, where it will be installed with two similar Wärtsilä 20 engines to form a complete generating set for a containership owned by Reederei Nord Klaus E. Oldendorrf GmbH in Germany.

Wärtsilä 20 engines are used as main and auxiliary engines in marine vessels. Launched in 1992, this engine type has been well received in the market particularly as a marine auxiliary engine.

The Wärtsilä 20 is one of the main products of the Vaasa factory, which has production facilities designed specifically manufacturing this engine type.
