Wärtsilä increases offering of engineering services in Italy - opens new and modern workshop in Taranto

Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade press release 9 February 2009 at 10:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä has increased its range of engineering services available in Italy with the opening of a brand new workshop in Taranto, an important commercial and military hub in the Puglia region of Southern Italy. Relocation to the new, much larger facility provides a more suitable base from which to develop its offering in the region.

The new workshop is equipped to perform overhauling services for diesel and gas engines. It is implemented in full compliance with the latest Wärtsilä workshops standards. The size of the previous premises was found to be limiting in the type of services it could offer its customers.

“The new 700 m2 workshop with its five tonnes lifting capacity, is ready to support a variety of customers, and is particularly oriented towards serving bio fuel power plant installations in the Southern and Eastern part of Italy as well as the Taranto Italian Naval Base,” said Guido Barbazza, Director, Field Service Workshops, Wärtsilä Services.

The new facility opened at the end of January with an experienced 12-man team capable of providing a wide range of engine components overhauling, re-machining and honing services.

Wärtsilä in Italy is present in Trieste with engine production, parts warehouse and service workshop. The company also has service workshops in Genoa and Napoli and employs in total more than 1500 people. Wärtsilä has been present in Italy for more than 20 years.
