Jaakko Eskola to head decentralized energy body

Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade press release 2 November 2005 at 14:00 UTC+2

Mr Jaakko Eskola, Vice President, Sales & Marketing for the Power Plants Business of Wärtsilä Corporation has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Alliance for Decentralized Energy (WADE) with effect from 1 January 2006.

Looking forward to his work in WADE, Mr Jaakko Eskola said “From my experience delivering decentralized energy, I firmly believe that WADE can contribute much to bring benefits in those countries where national efforts to promote it are small or non-existent and where the potential for market growth is greatest, in particular the larger emerging economies like Brazil, Russia, India and China.”

Decentralized energy systems involve the local generation primarily of electricity but also includes high-efficiency cogeneration (CHP combined heat and power) plants and renewable energy plants which all bring substantial economic, environmental and social benefits.

WADE was established in 2002 as an international, non-profit research and promotion organisation to work for the acceleration worldwide of the use of economically efficient decentralized energy systems. Based in the UK, WADE is supported by corporate leaders in various decentralized energy industries, national cogeneration and decentralized energy associations and a range of private and public institutions.

WADE believes that decentralized energy systems are no longer limited by either technology or cost. Decentralized energy systems are already employed in many countries yet they are often constrained from the market by increasingly outdated energy policies and regulations. One of WADE’s key goals is thus to justify and advocate the reform and modernization of these policies.
