Wärtsilä hosts Nasdaq Opening Bell Ceremony
In honor of Wärtsilä's 100th anniversary as a stock-listed company, CEO Björn Rosengren led the ceremony to officially open the market on Monday, May 4. Special guests included Ms. Ritva Koukku-Ronde, Ambassador of Finland in Washington D.C. and Mr. Jukka Pietikäinen, Consul General of Finland in New York. Wärtsilä also welcomed numerous individuals from the U.S. power generation industry who travelled into New York City to attend the event.
During the opening remarks, Björn Rosengren focused his message on Wärtsilä's Smart Power Generation, "Power at the push of a button - Wärtsilä knows that speed matters. This is why our Smart Power Generation power plants can start in 30 seconds and ramp to full output in less than 2 minutes. To keep the lights on in today’s power systems, flexible generation is imperative. Agile capacity is needed to shave peaks in electricity demand and to fill gaps of wind and solar output. We see a bright future for flexible generation and integration of renewable power sources."
Together, with customers and distinguished guests, Wärtsilä rang the Opening Bell at the Nasdaq Marketsite located in Times Square. Several media followed the opening bell ceremony and had live coverage including television networks: CNBC, Fox Business Network and Bloomberg.
