Wärtsilä Tug, Mooring and Inland Operations

The Tug Operator Trainer, based on the NTPRO 5000 navigational simulator, provides users with excellent tools for both ship assistant training tasks and professional training in tug and barge operations, including simulation training in:

  • mooring operations (ship-to-ship and ship-to-pier);
  • anchoring operations;
  • tug operations (automatic and manual mode).

Wärtsilä, in cooperation with SeaWays Consultants, has developed the advanced ASD tug simulator, capable of training personnel for a range of functions, from basic tug handling manoeuvres for beginners to advanced towing methods, such as in-direct towing, for tug masters. Designed by tug masters and for tug masters, it provides high fidelity and cost-effective training in complex and risky operations.

    Purpose

    The Tug Operator Trainer, based on the NTPRO 5000 navigational simulator, provides users with excellent tools for both ship assistant training tasks and professional training in tug and barge operations, including simulation training in:

      • mooring operations (ship-to-ship and ship-to-pier);
      • anchoring operations;
      • tug operations (automatic and manual mode).
    Tugs can be used as own ships handled by the bridge team or as target ships handled by the instructor manually or in semi-automatic mode.
    Wärtsilä , in cooperation with SeaWays Consultants, has developed the advanced ASD tug simulator, capable of training personnel for a range of functions, from basic tug handling manoeuvres for beginners to advanced towing methods, such as in-direct towing, for tug masters. Designed by tug masters and for tug masters, it provides high fidelity and cost-effective training in complex and risky operations.
    Functionality
      • Offshore tugging and towing;
      • Ship assistance work;
      • High speed escort work;
      • Operating various anchor equipment;
      • Oil rig and platform moves;
      • Integrated tug master and pilot training.
    Practically all types of tugboats are simulated, including conventional single-screw tugs, conventional twin-screw tugs, cycloid-drive (Voith-Schneider) tractor tugs and Z-drive reverse tractor drive. Interface to real tug controls can be provided.
    Compliance

    NTPRO 5000 has been designed in full compliance with the following standards:

    • International Convention of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW 2010);
    • IMO model courses;
    • International SOLAS Conventions;
    • Regulations concerning special training: fishing operations, VTS operator training, etc.;
    • The simulator is approved by DNV (with class notation INTEGRATED SIMULATOR SYSTEM, NAUT AW (SIM), DYNPOS – AUT (SIM), HSC, TUG, ICE to the Class A Standard for Certification of Maritime Simulators No. 2.14).

    Designed for advanced operations, where the visualization and hardware requirements are higher than those of conventional ship operations. The following additional features should be considered:

    • Vertical angle view
    • Rear-view visualization
    • Dedicated hardware
    Joint training

    Operating several tug training stations in one scenario provides more advanced training capabilities for:

    • Multiple tug operations
    • Rig moves with a coordinating rig master
    • Training of a bridge team of vessels being towed
    • Advanced pilot training
