OPTIMISE
Smart technologies for a profitable future

Better performance; lower costs

Each asset you operate has a purpose, and in fulfilling this purpose incurs ongoing operational costs. By optimizing your voyage and the operational performance of your asset, you can not only meet all quality requirements, but can also improve efficiency, reduce costs, and cut emissions. It means being able to operate a cargo vessel over its life span of, say, 25 years with the most economical operational costs. Better propulsion efficiency results in lower fuel costs, which in turn reduces emission levels and lessens the vessel’s environmental footprint. It also helps in reducing maintenance costs, increasing reliability, and enabling more overall profitability. Better route planning and navigational performance has a notable impact on voyage costs, while the safety of both the ship and its crew has always to be front and centre of all operational activities.

Business white paper: Optimising ship lifecycle efficiency

The white paper explains how we can help you improve efficiency across all stages – including strategic and business planning, the new-building phase, and operation and maintenance – to ensure better asset performance, optimise cost, and plan more effectively.

Smart technologies for a profitable future

We at Wärtsilä believe in utilising smart technologies to optimize operations, and that the biggest optimization potential lies in greater collaboration between maritime stakeholders. This is why we have developed our smart marine ecosystem vision, connecting the various marine stakeholders; the ship, its owners, operators, crew, onboard equipment, ports and suppliers, to create greater efficiencies, improved safety, and better environmental performance. We use modern software technologies, artificial intelligence, cloud and mobile technologies, IoT and more to build a more profitable future for our customers.

A new era of optimised performance

We believe that the smart marine ecosystem approach enables customers to take an important step towards a new era of optimization. It opens the door to increased revenues, enhanced vessel uptime, decreased operational costs, and less complexity in management and communications across stakeholders, whilst keeping the highest levels of safety and compliance at all times. For this you do not require large vessel retrofits or wait for the next drydocking, but can use the existing equipment and processes as you do now.

Connected solutions for efficient communication

By connecting your ECDIS for voyage planning on actual charts or for weather-based decisions, you move the vessel from having a “Navigation System with a CD” to a Google Maps type of connected solution. By connecting vessels and ports, you can exchange ETA and route information in both directions, allowing the vessel to slow down early enough to avoid waiting at a congested port, and inform all port stakeholders of a new arrival time. Once you set up your ship-to-shore reporting in a modern manner, you not only reduce the crew’s workload, but can re-use the information to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and environmental compliance. The future is already here, and these solutions are available today.
