For Hapag Lloyd AG’s series of ten vessels, Wärtsilä’s shaft generator system with PWM technology was selected. The 6.6 kV / 4500 kW system provides an active power feed to the mains, while the PWM converter promotes lower operating costs and reduced maintenance requirements through less usage of the auxiliary engines. The user-friendly system has proven to be extremely successful in all ten installations.
