Artemis

The Artemis system is a microwave position reference sensor for use in long range marine Dynamic Positioning (DP) applications. Artemis accurately measures the range and bearing of a mobile asset relative to a fixed position. The position is determined by measuring the absolute distance and the relative angle between two Artemis stations.

The longest range microwave reference sensor in the market today, Artemis' sensor technology is proven in the offshore operating of offloading and transportation of oil between shuttle tankers and FPSOs. The Mk6 unit builds on over 40 years of Artemis pedigree, combining proven microwave antenna tracking techniques with Guidance Marine's innovative Dashboard and commissioning tool.

    Wärtsilä Artemis Validator

    The Artemis Validator is a rugged unit that provides the ability to test the Artemis position reference sensor without the need for a second sensor. Available in two variants; battery powered for portable testing and mains powered for fixed installations. The simple interface allows selection of simulated test ranges and frequency pairs, along with access to Validator diagnostics.

    Principle of Operation

    The basic principle of operation is that the Validator is setup with the parameters of an Artemis sensor (frequency pair, address and simulated distance).  The Validator is placed such that it is in view of the Artemis sensor under test. The Validator will then simulate a real Artemis sensor for testing the function and performance of the Artemis system under test. 

    The portable unit is used for diagnosing faults or supporting installation of an Artemis sensor. The permanently installed version allows automated testing of the vessel's Artemis sensor, allowing the crew to have confidence their Artemis sensor is working. A user only has to press one button on the Dashboard and the validation process is performed and logged automatically.

    Dashboard and Service Interface

    The Artemis Dashboard is a user interface that has been logically structured and carefully designed to provide a clear intuitive interface that maximises the opportunities of multi-touch user control and touch screen technology. The same user interface is used on our CyScan and RadaScan systems, helping to make sure that Guidance Marine trained DPOs will already be familiar with the controls.

    When an Artemis equipped vessel moves within operating range of a remote station, the two stations will lock on to each other.

    Artemis_Service_Interface

    Used for system installation and maintenance, the Service Interface allows network communications to be configured and parameters on an Artemis Station to be viewed and set. It displays the state of connected Artemis Dashboard(s) and can be used to take basic control of the station

    Service Interface

    A dedicated commissioning tool offers a much faster set-up time, including handling all radar antenna set-up parameters from the PC rather than out at the sensor. It can also be used to read the position data when the system is in operation. This greatly improves commissioning and maintenance turnaround time.
