Wärtsilä Eastern Africa Limited was established in August 1997 at Nairobi, Kenya to serve growing East African power market by providing complete EPC and Lifecycle Support Services for world class, energy efficient engine based power plants. Over the years, local competency development and infrastructure upgrades have helped our power plant and marine customers in getting best value for their investments in this region.

Today, Wärtsilä Eastern Africa has more than 250 qualified and trained engineers, who are committed to serve customer requirements at all times. Teams on site and back in office & workshop, are driven by Wärtsilä values “Energy, Excellence, Excitement”, to achieve Wärtsilä Vision “We will be the most valued business partner of all our customers”.

We are an ISO certified operating company in Quality Management System ISO 9001:2008; Environment ISO 14001:2004.



Established office at Nairobi, Kenya
1999: Commissioned 103 MW plant in Daresalam, Tanzania, with O&M
2002: Commissioned 74 MW plant in Mombasa, Kenya, with O&M
2007: Commissioned 100 MW gas engine based plant in Ubongo, Tanzania, with O&M
2008: Commissioned 50 MW plant in Kampala, Uganda, with O&M
2009: Commissioned 45 MW gas engine based plant in Tegeta, Tanzania, with O&M
2010: Established services workshop in Mombasa, Kenya
2011: Commissioned 116 MW plant in Mombasa, Kenya, with O&M
2012: Installed 25 MW gas engine based plant in Lake Kivu, Rwanda
2013: Opened branch office in Juba
2013: Office and workshop facilities upgraded to enhance customer value
2014: Commissioned 80 MW plant in Nairobi, Kenya, with O&M
