Wärtsilä participates in the Offshore Mediterranean Conference in Ravenna

Press release 23 March 2015 at 10:00 UTC+2

The company will hold two sessions on the growing role of LNG and technologies for offshore applications

Wärtsilä, the world leader in the supply of power generation solutions for the marine and energy sector, will participate in the Offshore Mediterranean Conference being held in Ravenna from 25 to 27 March 2015.

The company will present solutions and technologies designed to support offshore applications, such as tug-boats and FPSOs (floating production, storage and offloading units) and also discuss the advantages that LNG offers to a sector that is facing increasingly stringent environmental legislation and that needs to improve efficiency.

“Wärtsilä is moving towards and investing heavily in LNG” stated Marco Golinelli, Power Plants Vice President at Wärtsilä Italia. “Over the years, we have developed a product range that is able to satisfy the various needs of the market, like dual-fuel engines, which can be used in various environments ranging from mercantile and offshore to ferries and tug-boats. These solutions provide benefits for operators in the sector and for the region, ensuring efficiency from both an economic and environmental perspective”.

Carlo Contessi, Applications Development General Manager at Wärtsilä Italia, added that “By using LNG as a fuel it is possible to reduce CO2 emissions by 25%, nitrogen emissions by 80% and almost all sulphur and particulate emissions. Wärtsilä, with over 12,000,000 operating hours with its dual-fuel engines, can affirm with certainty that gas represents a valid and concrete alternative for the marine sector”.

On 25 March at 4:30 pm, Wärtsilä will organize an aperitif to meet customers, partners and journalists at Stand P16 in Hall 6.
