Laura Hannula, Business Analyst

12 month Placement in Wärtsilä Services, Fareham
Graduate Opportunity in Wärtsilä Services, Fareham

As I had already graduated from university and was eager to keep working in business intelligence, I was very delighted and excited to be offered the possibility to continue my career as a Business Analyst after my placement year. While my job title and office location remained the same, there was an increase in responsibilities and I am now taking part in various business development and analytics pilot projects for example.

It is very rewarding and motivating to see that my work has had a positive impact, and I have learned tremendously and met some wonderful people during my time at Wärtsilä. Over time my role has become more proactive and international, where instead of reporting on past performance locally I get to also take part in innovative analytics projects with a more global scope. In addition to focus on data visualization and presenting findings on management dashboards, I for example help my colleagues with the use of our various reporting and sales tools.

Overall, among my favourite things about working for Wärtsilä are the supporting working culture, and the chance to tailor your career based on your interests and strengths. Every day is different, and there are a lot of possibilities to challenge and develop yourself.

Khalid Sumra, Marketing Coordinator

12 month Placement in Wärtsilä Seals & Bearings, Havant
Graduate Opportunity in Marketing, Havant

Completing my placement year at Wärtsilä provided me with a good knowledge of marketing principles and practices through working on key projects which have supported improvements in how Wärtsilä markets its products and services.

Working closely with experienced marketers and key departments including Sales and Engineering, I created marketing material such as brochures, e-mail campaigns, promotional videos and product animations. These projects helped combine my theoretical knowledge from university with real work experiences, giving me the chance to be creative and develop exciting marketing initiatives. In addition, I have developed a wide range of transferable skills which will benefit me in future projects and opportunities.

Development is an important aspect at Wärtsilä and I have been able to attend marketing seminars, events and visit business sites, which has provided a good insight towards marketing initiatives and how they can be tailored to complement Wärtsilä’s business strategy. Following my placement year at Wärtsilä, I have been fortunate to receive a permanent job as a Marketing Coordinator for the Marine and Hydro business areas.
