Wärtsilä was awarded two EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contracts by Nishat Power Ltd. (NPL) and Nishat Chunian Power Ltd. (NCPL) from Pakistan in 2008.
Both NPL and NCPL are independent power producers and members of the Nishat Group. The two companies have signed Power Purchase Agreements with the National Transmission & Despatch Company. The Nishat Group is one of the leading business groups in Pakistan with interests in the textile, cement, insurance and banking sectors.
Each of these two plants is utilising eleven Wärtsilä 18V46 engines and a steam turbine to produce a total electrical output of 200 MWe. Both the NPL & NCPL combined cycle power plants are located next to each other near the city of Lahore and were handed over by mid-2010.
What’s more, Wärtsilä was also awarded operations and maintenance (O&M) agreements by the Nishat Group of Companies for these two power plants in 2009. The 5-year agreements call for Wärtsilä to operate, maintain, and supply all labour and spare parts for the NPL and NCPL plants.
