The 1st utility scale transmission-connected energy storage solution to accelerate the UK transition to clean energy transport

Key learning objectives

  • Learn more about a world-first national network of grid-scale batteries and how to optimise a portfolio of renewable assets.
  • GEMS optimising operational performance of multiple energy system assets.
  • What this means commercially and protection of income streams in a merchant risk model.
  • Enabling UK to meet its net-zero ambitions.

Pivot Power and Wärtsilä have partnered to deliver 100 MW of battery storage capacity across two sites in the United Kingdom.

Pivot Power, an EDF Renewables UK-owned developer, aims to deliver up to 2GW of energy storage and high-volume power connections to accelerate the UK’s transition to a clean, electric future.

These are the first projects in a planned 40-site programme of grid-scale batteries directly connected to the transmission system and will contribute to the UK's 2050 net-zero emission target with the addition of energy storage and other flexible energy assets into the UK National Grid.
