For Sampo Suvisaari, Wärtsilä’s vision of a 100% renewable energy future represents a very realistic roadmap. Leading Wärtsilä’s Energy Business in the northern half of Latin America, Sampo is helping to accelerate the transition towards renewables by providing future-proof, cleaner energy solutions to his customers.
Sampo’s team covers both new power plants as well as lifecycle services in all countries from Mexico to Peru. Recently, the team won one of the largest deals ever in Wärtsilä’s history to be delivered in Latin America. In addition, Sampo has led the sales process for a major LNG-to-power project in El Salvador, which is marking an important milestone in the development of the country’s energy mix. During his time as Business Development Manager, Sampo led the successful sale of three major ground-breaking Wärtsilä’s FlexicycleTM projects in the Dominican Republic, and originated another Flexicycle project for Mexico which became the most efficient Wärtsilä power plant in the world at the time.
As far back as 2010, Sampo understood the importance of LNG as a fuel for his region’s energy sector. Finally – after 10 years of ground-breaking LNG thought leadership – he is seeing his customers increasingly switching from oil-based power generation to natural gas with both new plant investments as well as gas conversions. The share of renewable energy is also gradually increasing.
Over the years, Sampo has travelled in more than 60 countries around the world. He speaks five languages fluently, and in his thinking always tries to put himself in the customer’s shoes. Consequently, he is a great listener and able to build strong connections with people from different backgrounds.
