The technology group Wärtsilä continues to support Bangladesh’s need to expand its electricity supply to both domestic and industrial consumers. The Bangladeshi government is anxious to promote economic growth and a reliable, flexible power supply is an essential element in achieving this goal. Wärtsilä’s ability to deliver the needed generating capacity on a fast-track basis has emerged as a central pillar of this programme. The latest order, which was booked in June, is for a 114 MW power plant to be located in Feni, Bangladesh. The customer is Sri Lanka-based Infra & Engineering (pvt) Ltd, a member of the LTL Holdings group.
The new baseload plant will run on six Wärtsilä 50 and one Wärtsilä 20 engines. The equipment is scheduled for delivery in December of this year, and the facility is expected to become fully operational in autumn 2019. The electricity generated will be fed to the national grid.

LTL Holdings is the largest and most established engineering company in Sri Lanka and the company has expanded into the international arena through its complete power sector supply chain capabilities. Wärtsilä has earlier worked closely with LTL Holdings on successful projects in both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
During the past 12 months, Wärtsilä has previously booked orders for 11 power plant deliveries to Bangladesh. The company already provides approximately 25 percent of the country’s grid capacity, and when this latest order is delivered and installed Wärtsilä’s total power supply to Bangladesh will exceed 4500 MW.
