Building a career in business development and strategy

Laura Hannula works as a Business Analyst. In her work, she is helping account managers and other UK colleagues with reporting and by using of tools such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and Qlik Sense. Laura started at Wärtsilä as a placement student while she was completing her final year at the University and was delighted to be offered a permanent role afterwards.

“The journey so far has been great – never thought I could learn and experience this much over such a short period. I’ve taken part in various interesting projects to help sales and improve our ways of working, and even got to participate in a hackathon in Finland. With such a good experience already, I am very excited to see what the future holds.”

She is truly inspired by the variety and the challenge her role offers, and that she gets to work with people from various departments and backgrounds. Especially, Laura highlights that the help and the support of local and international colleagues has been solid.

Laura thinks that technology and the use of data to support and drive decision-making will become more and more important in the future. In addition, she also sees that there will be an increased focus on sustainability and environmental projects, both on the local and global level.

Laura says that Wärtsilä is an attractive employer with lot to offer in career development. With the advanced analytics projects, start-up challenges, collaboration with customers and various other interesting projects going on, she hopes to stay involved and build a career in business development and strategy.
