An ambassador of green relationships
Johan Penninga’s journey at Wärtsilä has been filled with exciting turns and opportunities. Currently, he is an Account Manager for Wärtsilä’s Inland Water Ways (IWW) business in Central Europe. “I started with Wärtsilä in 1999 by creating spare parts documentation for engine type Wärtsilä 38. After the production was transferred to Trieste, I was asked to join the Technical Services department as an Engine Expert Supporter. Then later when Wärtsilä took over Deutz in 2005, I changed over from the Technical Services department to Sales. Since I speak German, I was asked to explore the IWW business in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.”
In his work, Johan really enjoys interacting with customers and preparing offers for overhauls and new build vessels. He is also inspired by his colleagues and the work they are doing together. “I like the way you have control over your own piece of contribution to Wärtsilä. Especially the colleagues that are working with you. Because in the end, you are not doing the work by yourself as it is always a team effort!”
Innovation, acquisitions, partnership and dedicated colleagues are the things that motivate Johan to wake up every day and go to work with full dedication.
According to Johan’s vision, the future is looking bright both for him and for Wärtsilä. “In 15 years Wärtsilä will be a global energy solution provider, providing green energy solutions for both marine and energy markets. Our position is supported by continuous innovation, highly respecting the carbon footprint. I see myself as an ambassador for Wärtsilä looking out for new customers that are willing to invest in green solutions.”
