The small things matter most
Meet Andrea Hernandez, a visionary General Manager, Strategy of Wärtsilä's Marine Business, whose work focuses on helping Wärtsilä to identify its targets and to define the roadmap how to reach them.
“Basically, I generate initiatives, projects and actions according to the roadmap and I also manage a funnel of strategic projects. Communicating about our strategy is also an important area in my work, amongst other things. I think my role, helping our organisation plan and execute towards a vision that is full of purpose and is transformational for our industry, is making a great contribution. Sometimes, I stop and think that we may have launched the Smart Marine strategy two years ago, but I can trace back my personal contribution towards this direction to every single day after I joined Wärtsilä.”
Andrea states that working at Wärtsilä has been quite a ride. “I love the fact that there are always new challenges at hand, and since the very beginning I have been given the opportunity to try new approaches, to learn and to take responsibility. I have said many times that in this company if you have an idea with potential and present it, the answer will be ‘Great; go and give it a try’!”
Andrea has a 6-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son, and she emphasises how she loves spending time with them. “You may see me building snow castles, being a pirate or making a pizza with them. On holidays I love travelling. Next month, I am heading to my 43rd country!”
