Maintenance Supervisor with a safety-focused mindset

Abdulazeez Abdulsalam is an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor from Nigeria who first worked for Wärtsilä as a Technician but has ever since advanced his career, eventually landing his current position. He is inspired by mentoring graduate trainees and training other colleagues on the Wärtsilä engines and auxiliaries.

“Part of my role is to plan and assign the daily jobs to technicians, and the tasks are based on schedule and preventive maintenance. I also ensure that the work is done in the safest manner, as it is crucial to prevent injuries and equipment damage,” Abdulazeez describes.

When asked about his special talent, Abdulazeez brings up the removal of turbocharger washing bolts. “Removing turbocharger washing unit bolts is actually very challenging. I have been the one doing it since I joined the company as a Technician and even now as a Supervisor. it takes a lot of patience as the bolts have been subjected to high temperature and are difficult to remove. You need experience to get the job done.”

The work days of Abdulazeez and his team are busy in nature; it’s the responsibility of Abdulazeez to ensure that no stone is left unturned nor jobs are transferred to the next day. “So far, my journey has been good here at Wärtsilä; I enjoy the safety culture, the people and the whole working environment."
