On the 1st May, 1994, Wärtsilä started operating in South Africa with a staff of one. Our aim was to search for customers in Sub Sahara Africa to offer them our services. By the beginning of 1995 our staff complement was five people and our first service engineers were hired. In 1996 we moved to Paarden Eiland and we established a fully operational workshop to meet our growth. With the merge of Wärtsilä Diesel and Sulzer (Wärtsilä NSD) in November 1997, we “inherited” a service depot in Durban.
Today we have 29 staff members in Cape Town and two service engineers in our Durban Branch office. We offer a full Wärtsilä range of services to our Marine and Power Plant customers in Sub Sahara region including Madagascar and Mauritius. Our fully equipped workshop is dedicated to offer the best services to our 4-stroke and 2-stroke engine base.
Scope of Wärtsilä in South Africa
Supply service and parts for Wärtsilä marine propulsion systems, power plants and any other engine type that might be requested by our customers.
