Wärtsilä has had a permanent presence in Vietnam since 1994 with the setting up of a representative office. In 1998 we obtained a business license to operate as a 100% foreign owned service company. In Vietnam we have a fully equipped workshop for overhauling diesel engine components and presently we have a staff of 14 employees with full access to the resources and support of Wärtsilä in Singapore as well as the whole Corporation.
In Vietnam, Wärtsilä actively develops and sells land based and marine power solutions based on the Wärtsilä and Sulzer engine brand names. Full after sales support is provided for the complete range of our products as well as for any brand of engine.
In Vietnam, Wärtsilä has built seven land based power plantseither as a turnkey contractor or as a main equipment supplier. In 2007, two new power plants will be commissioned. Our major customer, Vietsovpetro, has 16 vessels with a total of 47 Wärtsilä engines in its fleet in addition to the new vessel that is under construction. PTSC Marine has nine vessels with Wärtsilä engines, some of which are also fitted with Wärtsilä CP propellers. We have carried out major repair works on these engines either at the local shipyards or at the ports. There are also many Vietnamese ship owners with vessels fitted with Sulzer main and auxiliary engines. Some of the newer vessels were built in local shipyards.
