Wärtsilä Wireless Big-end Bearing Temperature Monitoring

The Wireless Big-End Bearing Temperature Monitoring system provides real-time temperature monitoring of the connecting rod big end bearings.

This state-of-the-art wireless system improves operational safety by continuously monitoring the temperature of the bearings. Any uncharacteristic deviation in the bearing temperature results in an immediate warning signal. The engine can then be stopped in an orderly fashion allowing troubleshooting to be carried out in good time before actual damage occurs. The system gives real-time, first-hand data, thereby preventing damage to the big-end bearings of the connecting rod, which is one of the most common reasons for four-stroke engine breakdowns.

    Technical info
The complete system consists of a wireless temperature sensor with one stationary antenna per cylinder and one or more signal processing units. The core of the system is based on advanced radar technology, which makes it possible to use high quality, wireless passive sensors that require no external power sources.
    Benefits
The Wireless Big-End Bearing System improves operational safety by continuously monitoring the temperature of the big end bearings.
