The Austrian company Miba AG, one of Wärtsilä’s most important suppliers of bearings, has been chosen Wärtsilä’s Supplier of the Year for 2003. Miba provides almost half of all bearings used in Wärtsilä machinery.
The reasons underlying Miba’s choice are the company’s strong technical expertise, its commitment to continuous development and testing of bearing materials, the ability to meet Wärtsilä’s specific needs, its fast response times and ability to solve problems. In 2003 Miba demonstrated outstanding delivery reliability of top-quality products. The delivery reliability of the company has improved continuously from the start of co-operation and the quality of its bearings has been one hundred per cent. Communication between the supplier and Wärtsilä has likewise been open and confidential.
Every year Wärtsilä chooses a Supplier of the Year from among its hundreds of partners in order to support the further development of its supplier network and improve overall quality.
Miba AG has three business areas: Bearing Group, Sinter Group and Friction Group. The company’s net sales in the financial year 1 February 2002 to 31 January 2003 totalled approximately MEUR 294 and the result before taxes (EBT) was roughly MEUR 26.3. During the same period the company had 2 461 employees. Miba has production and sales units in ten countries.
