Wärtsilä power for ORS semi-submersible platform

Wärtsilä Corporation was awarded a contract in November 2005 by Yantai Raffles Shipyard in China to supply the main engines, thrusters and associated ancillary equipment for the new offshore semi-submersible platform “ORS Pioneer”.

Wärtsilä will deliver six Wärtsilä 32 diesel engines and motor-driven steerable thrusters together with various ancillary equipment. The main engines have a combined power of 29 MW.

This new offshore platform has been contracted at the Yantai Raffles Shipyard by the Norwegian company Offshore Rig Services AS. The platform has been designed by Global Maritime AS in Norway. It is a multipurpose, mobile platform suitable for various offshore operations including drilling and well intervention. It is due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2008.

Wärtsilä is a member of consortium also including Siemens AS and Kongsberg Maritime AS. This consortium is the main contractor for the platform’s power plant, electrical, propulsion, dynamic positioning and automation systems. The total value of the consortium contract is approx. EUR 30 million, of which Wärtsilä’s share is about 50 percent.
