Wärtsilä supplies two power plant extensions to Taiwan

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 7 June 2004 at 09:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä will supply two turnkey power plant extensions, totalling 65 MW, to the Lungtan factory of Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd (CPT) in Taiwan to meet the increased power demands of CPT’s new production facilities.

The first contract, for a 12 MW standby power plant extension, was signed in January 2004. The second CPT contract, signed in May 2004, is for a 53 MW baseload power plant extension. The value of the deals is approximately EUR 34 million.

Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd. is a public listed company manufacturing electronics components including thin film liquid crystal displays and plasma display panels. A reliable and secure power supply is critical to CPT’s production lines. Even a single power outage could cost CPT many hundreds of millions in losses.

The ability to meet fast-track delivery schedules played an important role in the award of these two contracts. The first project will be operational by October 2004 and the second by January 2005.
