Wärtsilä to deliver two gas power plants to the USA

Wärtsilä Corporation, Press release 6 February 2007 at 16:00 UTC+2

Wärtsilä has this year received two gas power plant orders totalling 190 MW from the USA.

In California Wärtsilä will deliver equipment for a 115.5 MW gas power plant. The order, received at the beginning of February, is worth more than EUR 40 million and will be built for Tierra Energy, an independent power producer in North California. The project is subject to certification by the California Energy Commission.

The Tierra Energy power plant, with 14 Wärtsilä 34SG engines, is expected to be in operation in May 2009, after which it will supply electricity to the Pacific Gas & Electric grid.

”We are honored to have the opportunity to work with Tierra Energy,” says Frank Donnelly, Vice President, Wärtsilä Power Plants in North America. ”Wärtsilä looks forward to helping the State of California reach its long-term energy goals through this project, the second contract for a Wärtsilä power plant as a result of Pacific Gas & Energy’s recent tender.”

Details of the other order received this year, a 75 MW power plant, will be announced with the customer in the next few weeks.

The Tierra Energy order, along with the second order placed at the beginning of February, brings to four the number of orders for gas power plants received by Wärtsilä in the USA in less than a year. In April 2006 Wärtsilä was chosen by Pacific Gas and Electric to supply a power plant to Humboldt Bay in California, and in September Cogentrix Energy Inc. commissioned Wärtsilä to supply the Plains End II power plant in Denver, Colorado.
