Wärtsilä Corporation Press release, Trade & Technical Press 2 May 2006
Wärtsilä Automation Norway, a member of the Wärtsilä group and Emerson Process Management have decided to form a total electrical and instrumentation system alliance for Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels. This alliance will deliver high-performance power plant and process automation systems for FPSO market incorporating leading technologies from both companies.
Dedicated engineering teams of the companies will develop turn-key solutions by collaborating from front-end engineering and design (FEED) through to FPSO commissioning and operation. The delivered solutions can include diesel and dual-fuel engines, generators, power distribution systems, electrical drives, thrusters, motor control centers, and safety and automation systems including metering, valves and instrumentation of the complete vessel.
Wärtsilä is an established supplier power generation systems to the offshore oil and gas industry, based on diesel and dual-fuel engines, thrusters and other related systems. Wärtsilä Automation Norway AS was formed in March 2006 after the acquisition by Wärtsilä Corporation of the Norwegian company Aker Kværner Power and Automation Systems AS. Emerson Process Management is a leading supplier of digital automation systems.
“By combining our marine expertise and extensive project management experience, we will deliver project management and system integration services, minimizing schedule and integration risk for FPSO project owners. Both companies are committed to providing integrated systems on a common platform, needed by operators of FPSO vessels”, says Arne Birkeland, Managing Director of Wärtsilä Automation Norway AS.
The first collaborative project of the alliance is for BW Offshore FPSO “BW Enterprise”. It involves power distribution with high- and medium voltage motor control centres, safety and automation systems including digital process automation, metering stations, instruments and valves.
