To ensure very high standard services for Korean customers, Wärtsilä Korea Ltd.(WKR) & Wärtsilä-Hyundai Engine Company(WHEC) hosted ‘Wärtsilä Technical Seminar’ in April 29, 2009. Over 230 people - Superintendents, Engineers and Designers from Ship owners, Ship yards and Engine builders were invited.
With central themes of Energy, Environment and Economy, the seminar can give the answers that the customers have sought after by offering in-depth understanding of Wärtsilä’s products along with Wärtsilä Korea’s business units in Ship Power, Services, Industrial Operations and Power Plants. We update information and field experience for Wärtsilä products. Our business is energy and our solutions are uniquely efficient and thus helping to protect the environment.
Through this seminar, Mr. Erik Kristensen, Services Vice President of WKR said, “Although these days global economy situation is bad, it is very important for Wärtsilä to stay in closer relation with clients and partners we cooperate with. They should achieve deeper knowledge and confidence with Wärtsilä and our products. Thereby we would like to improve customer-oriented relationships and common interests with each other as their preferred partner. ”
1. Focused message through Technical seminar
First, Wärtsilä in Korea organized technical seminar in the company level. Most of Koran customers in Ship yards, Engine Makers and sub-Supplies understand well about the product of Wärtsilä 2-Stroke engine. But we felt the necessity to promote the knowledge of the business activities of Ship Power, Industrial Operations and Services in Korea.
So, we invited potential key customers in the practical working level who will be future Decision Makers in order to improve the knowledge of Wärtsilä products and image.
The programme of technical seminar is focused on introduction of new Wärtsilä technology and improving the trust of Wärtsilä Products.
The participants said that IMO Regulation Tier II/III was well presented, and they had good chance to understand our product is ‘the Cost optimized & Efficiency optimized solution to reply about this regulations and also the changed conditions according to this new regulation”.
Additionally according to the theoretical parts, for example, the performance experiences of Wärtsilä 50DF and Wärtsilä 82 in new shipbuilding area were introduced successfully performed.
2. The feedback from participants
Most of the participants have experienced in other similar seminars in our competitor, they gave some more meaningful that Wärtsilä organized this technical seminar in Korea first. Although they expressed some more requests about the deeper contents of seminar, generally, they were satisfied about the programme and place. In future time, they hope they take advantage of this kind of technical seminar as a channel of exchange of technical information and opportunity to extend human network.
Finally, they appreciated that Wärtsilä provided an opportunity to get advanced technical information of Wartsila products. Because they were interested in the IMO regulation, Tier II and III, they were so happy to improve the understanding about well summarized Wärtsilä’s solution and presentation. So, when they come back to their field, they said, the information will be so helpful and use practical in their works.
Wärtsilä’s involvement in Korea goes back to 1986 with the establishment of the Wärtsilä Korea Liaison Office, which organised License Agreements with SsangYong Heavy Industries, for engine production under licence. Wärtsilä Korea Ltd was established in 1993. In 2006, Wärtsilä opened its Land & Sea Academy in Busan. This was followed in 2007 by a new service centre at Incheon. The new premises opening in Eomgung, Busan in December 09, 2008 consolidated the Korean operations to better serve our customers.
