R&D has four main activities:
1. Design and Development (D&D)
D&D participates to R&D Projects and supports ED as regards the Design and Development of mechanical components and systems in the following areas:
- Cylinder Head and Valve Trains
- Power Systems
- Fuel Injection Systems
- Turbocharging Systems
- Ancillary Systems.
Specific Calculation and Simulation Team and Design Team support the above mentioned activities.
2. Testing and Validation (T&V):
T&V performs component / system testing and validation for the following engine types:
- Wärtsilä 64, Wärtsilä 46F, Wärtsilä 38, Wärtsilä 26.
3. Engine Management and Automation system design (EMA):
EMA performs automation system development for the following engine types:
- Wärtsilä 64, Wärtsilä 46, Wärtsilä 50DF, Wärtsilä 46F, Wärtsilä 38, Wärtsilä 26.
4. Strategic Sourcing (SC):
SC is responsible for the following activities:
- Supplier relations and development
- Product development in co-operation with Technical Experts
- Participation in Supply agreements negotiation and local application and maintenance
- Securing local application of Supply Management strategies
- Material Cost controlling
- Laboratory related parts procurement
- Supplier assessment.
