EOU Project

Wärtsilä India Limited has set up an 100 % Export Oriented Unit (EOU) at its existing premises at Khopoli factory for manufacture and export of marine reduction gear boxes, Pumps ( Lube Oil Pumps and parts & components thereof ) and Oil Distribution Boxes and parts, components & accessories thereof to its group companies as well as direct sales to its Indian / Foreign customers.

Marine Reduction Gear Boxes
Wärtsilä Corporation has designed and manufactured reduction gears since 1990 in Rubbestadsneset, Norway. The new range (500-1800 kW), designed to cover the lower power end of the Wärtsilä Propulsion equipment portfolio, will be covered by new gear types. These gears will be available with vertical offset, and with built-in hydraulically operated multiple-disc clutch and PTO.  The new reduction gears are at the lower end of the output range.  Along with the existing gears, the Wärtsilä gear portfolio will cover the whole range of the power outputs needed by the market. The factory in India will allow Wärtsilä to expand its business volume in the growing Asian shipbuilding market.

The reduction gear is an important part of the total package. In a mechanical propulsion system, typically there is the main engine and a reduction gear, which reduces the rpm of the main engine to optimally match the rpm of the propeller. Reduction gears reduce the main engine speed to the optimum propeller speed.

The core function of a reduction gearbox is to reduce the main engine speed to the optimum propeller speed. Wärtsilä gears have been designed to meet the highest standards of operational efficiency and reliability with low noise and vibration.

Wärtsilä gears can be supplied with built-in multidisc clutches, featuring:

  • Single-input, single-output gears with vertical or horizontal offsets of the shafts
  • Twin-input, single-output gears with up to 3.8m horizontal offsets

Power take-off arrangements

  • Over 90% of gearbox deliveries include built-in PTO for shaft generators
  • In standardized solutions the PTO is running also when the propeller has been disconnected
  • Customized solutions, including secondary driven, twin-, and two-speed PTOs, are also available

Auxiliary propulsion drive for increased safety

  • Possibility to utilize power from auxiliary engines as back-up for the main engine
  • Standard gearbox with multidisc clutch is supplied with an additional disconnecting coupling between gear and main engine
  • Can also be used for operation modes with low vessel speeds

Integrated or separate hydraulic system for gear and CP propeller

  • Most gears designed with integrated hydraulic system for gear and CP propeller
  • Reduced installation costs for shipyard and operational costs for owner as hydraulic power unit for CP propeller is left out
  • For safety reasons the gear mechanically drives the main pump for the propeller
  • Gears can be interfaced to a separate hydraulic power unit

Oil Distribution Boxes
These are electromechanical assemblies used in Ship Propulsion Systems especially in variable pitch Propellers.

The function of  this assembly is to vary hydraulic pressure on the Control Links to change the blade angle of the Propeller.  By changing the blade angle, one can vary the pitch resulting in variation of speed. The assembly is consisting of different mechanical parts like machined C.I & Aluminium castings; precision machined steel parts, electrical components such as potentiometers, controls and different kinds of seals.

It will be manufactured through different machining process.  It will be assembled and tested to check the achievement of desired parameters.

Wärtsilä India will manufacture and supply this assembly to Wärtsilä group companies & Indian customers, to be integrated in the propulsion systems.

The estimated annual volume of the product is based on expected global sales to group companies & Indian customers.

Pumps (Lube Oil Pumps)
This mechanical assembly is used on the reciprocating engines.  It is essentially required for pumping the lubricating oil under specific pressure to the different mechanical assemblies / linkages for lubrication purpose. This pump is either driven by engines itself or electric prime mover as per the arrangements provided in the different engine models.  There are different models of pumps according to the engine size and configurations.

The assembly consists of machined C.I. castings, different precision steel gears, bearing bushing and friction rings for keyless drive.

The pump will be manufactured through different machining processes.  It will be assembled and tested for the desired performance.

As Lube Oil Pump is an integrated assembly of diesel / gas engine, the sale volume is according to the sale volume of engines to be marketed by our group companies & Indian customers.
