Wärtsilä was one of the first Finnish companies to enter the Indian market in the early 1980s. Wärtsilä India was formed as a listed company in 1986 and with a manufacturing unit at Khopoli near Mumbai in 1989. Over the years, Wärtsilä extended its offering to the market by not just supplying equipment but by positioning itself as a turnkey solutions provider. Wärtsilä has over 1000 employees in India and a total installed base of 4500 MW (power plants and marine engines).
