History

History of Wärtsilä in West Africa

  • 1957: SARIA Sénégal in Dakar (industrial trading company) is created and represents, among other, SACM Diesel.
  • 1980: SACM Diesel France opens a Liaison Office in Abidjan, Ivory Coast that in 1990 becomes SACM Diesel ACO (Afrique Centrale et de l’Ouest), then Cummins Wärtsilä ACO and finally Wärtsilä ACO.
  • 1996: Wärtsilä SACM Diesel France takes over SARIA Sénégal in Dakar. The company is renamed Wärtsilä West Africa. It covers mainly Sénégal and Mauritania.
  • 2000: Wärtsilä in France opens a permanent establishment in Libreville, Gabon to manage a Maintenance contract with SEEG in Owendo, and including also a sales function.
  • 2003: Wärtsilä decides to reorganize and strengthen the activities in West Africa, starting to cover all the products of the Company. At the same time the management responsibility is shifted from France to Wärtsilä Headquarters. The hub for Wärtsilä in West Africa is in Dakar with operations in Abidjan and Libreville and covers the Service activities in 25 countries in Western and Central Africa.
  • 2004: Wärtsilä in Guinea is opened to operate the Siguiri O&M Agreement.
  • 2006: Wärtsilä in Gabon is opened under the management of Wärtsilä West Africa in Dakar.
  • 2008: Wärtsilä Central Africa is opened to cover ten countries in the region including Gabon.
  • 2008: Wärtsilä Gabon is integrated into Wärtsilä Central Africa.
