Working in close co-operation with the owner and yard, all vessels are designed with an emphasis on low fuel consumption, a minimal environmental footprint, and safety and comfort for the crew.
Our specialized vessels portfolio comprises research vessels, tugs and workboats, and offshore wind turbine installation and maintenance vessels. We have worked for all kinds of research disciplines, including oceanographic, hydrographical, geophysical, fishery and polar research.
Wärtsilä is actively involved in the development of designs for vessels for the evolving Offshore Wind Turbine industry, and designs vessels for the entire logistical chain of an offshore wind farm.
Wärtsilä Ship Design offers design solutions for both fibre optic cable and power cable laying vessels.
In designing cable laying vessels, we place a strong emphasis on high operability, a minimal environmental footprint, and streamlined laying operations.
WSD designs dedicated fibre optic cable laying vessels for the telecoms industry, and power cable laying vessels needed typically for offshore wind farms. In close co-operation with the owner, shipyard, and the equipment supplier, WSD tailors the design according to the required lay speed and other essential criteria.
