Wärtsilä starts workshop operations at Grand Bahama Shipyard

Wärtsilä Caribbean Inc. and Grand Bahama Shipyard have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enter into a cooperation agreement under which Wärtsilä will provide workshop services for engines, propulsion systems, seals and bearings as well as governor testing and exchange capabilities at the premises of Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas.
Wärtsilä’s services operations in the Caribbean include service offices in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The goal of the cooperation is to broaden Wärtsilä’s scope of services for marine customers in the region. “This is an important milestone in the development of the marine business in the Caribbean region. The Grand Bahama Shipyard is one of the biggest shipyards in the region. Establishing an onsite workshop enables us to optimize the response times for vessels coming into GBS,” says André Bosman, Director, Wärtsilä Services Unit, Caribbean. Mr. R.G. Grand Bahama Shipyard in brief
GBSL is the largest shipyard in the Caribbean region consisting of three floating docks that can accommodate vessels up to 310m in length, 58m beam and maximum lifting capacity of 82,500 tonnes. To support the docks, four wet berths are available with a mean water draft throughout the yard of 18m. The yard has been in existence for ten years and has achieved and maintained continual growth in providing first class docking facilities for all forms of ship repair.
