About Wärtsilä in Spain
Wärtsilä has had operations in Spain and Portugal since 1987 including Engine and Propeller Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales, Service and R&D activities. Major acquisitions took place in 2003 with Navalips and, lately, in 2011 with Cedervall.
Wärtsilä´s primary activities in the Iberian Peninsula are the sales and service of Ship Power solutions and Power Plants, as well as the manufacturing of propellers, seals & bearings and the development and testing of new engine prototypes. Wärtsilä operates from 6 sites across Spain including 2 under Cedervall name and 1 in Portugal. The number of employees at the end of 2011 in Spain was 283 in and 35 in Portugal. Wärtsilä´s sales in the Iberian Peninsula totalled EUR 97 million.
Propeller manufacturing: We produce propellers and spare parts in Delivery Centre Santander. This is a state of the art facility, where we cast, machine and finish our fixed pitch propellers, as well as propeller blades and other bronze alloy components for our controllable pitch propellers.
Testing and Validation Centre: (R&D Laboratory) for testing and developing diesel, gas and dual fuel engines and their components. Nowadays we have three different engines types; one 6L50DF (5,7Mw), one 16V34SG (8Mw) and one 6L20DF (1 Mw).
Services: Services unit Iberica has the widest offering in the market which covers installations from spare parts, maintenance and technical support to upgrade & retrofit and full service agreements for the marine, offshore and industrial markets.
Wärtsilä Engine Services provide complete engine, propulsion and automation related system services, covering both Wärtsilä and other engine makes, in-house or on site, with a qualified team of engineers ready to be deployed, covering all requirements on land, in port and at sea. Bermeo workshop has Turbo charger, governor and fuel injection facilities that can offer service and overhaul on all types of fuel injectors and fuel pumps. Bermeo workshop has Napier and Woodward certifications.
Ship Power: Ship Power: Ship Power business in Spain encompasses a wide scope of activities, with projects ranging from single engine installation to complete propulsion plants and packaged multi-fuelled solutions. Our customers are all the shipyards in Spain, and our products and services destined to all kind of marine applications: ro-ro’s and passenger ferries, yachts, tugboats, dredger, fishing vessels as well as offshore support vessels of every kind.
Power Plants: Wärtsilä has supplied the Iberian market with 170 power plants, with a total output of 1641MW, for base load in the islands, peaking, emergency and for industrial CHP purposes.
Cedervall: Cedervall is one of the leading manufacturers of shaft seal and bearing systems for the marine industry. Cedervall enjoys a strong reputation in the global marine market. The company’s key products are sterntube and bulkhead seals, sterntubes and sterntube bearings, intermediate shaft bearings, and propulsion rudders and nozzles. Cedervall Spain has 2 factories in Vigo and Porriño.
