The vessel is the first of a series of 10, and was delivered in 2000. The ‘Schippersgracht’ is powered by a 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 64 engine giving an output of 12,060 kW at 333 rpm.
It is deployed primarily to ship paper from the Baltic to North America for the Finnish forestry group, UPM-Kymmene. In 2004 and 2005, another 4 S-type sister vessels have been added to the Spliethoff fleet, and these too are equipped with the Wärtsilä 6L64 engine.
