Wärtsilä liquid biofuel power plants
Electricity provided for the grid should be stable. Many green energy solutions – like solar and wind power – depend on weather conditions. Wärtsilä liquid biofuel power plants rely on dependable, renewable fuel resources and offer high overall plant performance at all times.
Liquid biofuels can be produced from practically any oil-rich crop like oil palm, soy, rapeseed, sunflower and jatropha, grown in many regions all around the world. Liquid biofuels can also be of non vegetable origin, for example oils or fats from fish, poultry and rendering processes, which are by-products of the food industry and would otherwise be considered waste.
A lifetime of clean energy is ensured by solutions beyond the fuel
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Wärtsilä liquid biofuel power plants are designed to operate on straight vegetable oils – without any energy consumption for fuel refinement needed. The oils can typically be extracted with simple methods so that even the CO2 emissions associated with the fuel production are minimized.
Wärtsilä liquid biofuel power plants use highly efficient combustion diesel engines to turn straight vegetable oils or animal fats into electricity and heat.
Wärtsilä offers liquid biofuel power plants in the range of 1–500 MW using Wärtsilä 20, Wärtsilä 32 and Wärtsilä 46 prime movers.
