Wärtsilä Danmark A/S has developed a unique technique of cold straightening, which permits straightening of shafts of virtually most sizes and forms. The technique is more than 40 years old and has been developed and improved over the years. We have achieved the approval from all major Classification Societies who consider the repair as permanent.

Straightening is economic, and can save the owner both time and money – straightening of a shaft is much faster than production of a new shaft and costs only a fraction of the new price.

No matter where in the world the propeller damage occurs, a cold straightening at Wärtsilä´s is often the most profitable solution.

Wärtsilä Danmark A/S is pre approved by all major classification companies for cold straightening of propeller shafts and rudder stocks.

The classification societies consider the repair to be permanent and a certificate is issued after each repair.

Straightening of shafts is much faster than production of replacement shafts. Most jobs can be completed within 24 hours from arrival at our work shop.

Certified welders carry out welding of shafts as well as casting of stern tube liners of white metal.

Laser control of shaft geometry

As the only provider world wide we can do alignment control of propeller shaft with use of patented gyro laser technology. This technology enables our engineer to detect any vertical and horizontal misgeometry of the shaft. Fast and accurate measurement of the bending line is one of the main features with this system. Together with our Jack-up system our engineers have the possibility to compare the measured bending curve with the actual load in the bearings. With all necessary tolls in place our engineers have the possibility to carry out a realignment of the shaft lines in a couple of hours. This is very useful if damage occurs with the vessel in a tight schedule.
