Engine Performance Technologies

R&D - Low-speed engines

Engine Performance Technologies deals with performance data which influence the operating costs through the fuel and lubricating oil consumptions, as well as with technology development to meet today’s and future emission regulations. Our target is to realise the best engine performance figures and the most environmentally-friendly solutions.

Performance technologies are developed to allow the lowest life-cycle costs while both complying with relevant emission limits and achieving the target time between overhauls for engine components. We test and validate new technologies in both test facilities and shipboard installations in close cooperation with the design department to achieve these objectives.

The basis for every development is a theoretical model which can cover simpler engineering ideas up to results from complex calculations. From such mode new components are developed. A laboratory research engine is then employed to test the new components. Engines installed in normal service in ships are also employed for long-term evaluation is required.
