Wärtsilä Marine Solutions Engines Project instructions on RFID tagging

Starting from December 2014, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions Engines Projects require that its packages have RFID tags in order to have high supply chain visibility. Existing way of packing and labelling remain unchanged.

A case label with RFID tag looks like this (bottom left corner):

1) Packing and labelling

General packing instructions must firstly be followed (see Packing Marking Instructions).

Supplier then informs readiness of goods by sending a completed preliminary packing list template to Wärtsilä purchaser. There are templates for 10-case and 20-case (to insert data, first click “Enable Editing” if you are using Microsoft Office 2010 onward).

After receiving final packing list and case label from purchaser, please follow the instructions on case labelling and RFID tag placement. Purchaser may require supplier to put also an RFID information sign on top of the case.

RFIDs tag rolls are sent to you by post. In case RFID-tag rolls are not received or if they are running out soon, please contact Wärtsilä. Our support personnel are Mr. Hieu Ta Minh (ta.minh.hieu@wartsila.com) and Ms. Linda Masus (linda.masus@wartsila.com).

2) RFID tag registration

The video below provides a quick guide to RFID tag registration. We recommend you to use a barcode reader to avoid typing mistakes.

Detailed instructions:

Go to website bit.ly/WartsilaRFID and log in using the user name and password given by Wärtsilä.

  1. Select the view ”Assets” from icon-pictures or from the menu: Reports=>Asset.
  2. Click button ”Add” from the right and fill in at least the following mandatory information (other data fields are optional):
    • ”SSCC”: set the cursor here and read the barcode from the RFID-tag, or write the SSCC-code to the field (20 numbers exactly) manually.
    • ”HU-number”: set the cursor here and read the barcode from Wärtsilä package label, or write the number serial (10 numbers) manually.
    • ”Status”: when the package has been shipped, select ”SHIPPED” (you can also create the package in advance to the status “CREATED”, but usually this is not needed).
    • ”Location”: when the package has been shipped, select ”TRANSIT”. It means that the package is in transit, when it has been shipped. If you have already selected the Status-value ‘Shipped’, then this is the only allowed value for "Location".
  3. Save by clicking ”Save”-button. (Other data fields are not mandatory). The package is then saved as ‘Shipped’.
