At the end of 2007 Wärtsilä had 16,336 employees worldwide. We also employed thousands of people indirectly through its supply chain. In order to be able to recruit competent and motivated people, we endeavour to offer employees competitive salaries, opportunities for continuous personal development and a good working environment. Developing employee skills and competences is of critical importance both for Wärtsilä’s business performance and for the development of the employees.

Salaries totalled EUR 592 million in 2007. This sum includes basic salaries as well as payments based on various incentive schemes, which cover some 60% of the total workforce.
