UPM-Kymmene has built a sawmill in Russia in co-operation with the Russian timber company ZAO Novgorodlesprom. UPM-Kymmene have a majority holding in the new sawmill, which started operations at the end of 2003.
The sawmill, which produces 200,000 cubic metres of sawn whitewood timber a year, is located in the city of Pestovo, in the administrative district of Novgorod. The sawmill is a single-line circular sawmill producing profiled whitewood timber according to UPM-Kymmene's quality standards. The sawn timber produced is 100% kiln dried.
The partner in the sawmill project, ZAO Novgorodlesprom, is a Russian company concentrating on wood processing and procurement. UPM-Kymmene already have one joint facility with ZAO Novgorodlesprom in Chudovo, Novgorod, with an annual production of 60,000 cubic metres of birch plywood.
Wärtsilä solution
Wärtsilä has signed a turnkey contract with Zao Pestovo Novo on the delivery of a 10 MW BioEnergy boiler plant to Pestovo. The scope of supply includes the civil works, foundations, building, process equipment, installations, commissioning and training.
The thermal capacity of the boiler plant is 10 MW. The design pressure of the boiler is 10 bar at a temperature of 150 °C. The plant produces thermal energy for the sawmill drying kilns. It is mainly fuelled by bark. The plant was manufactured at the Kiuruvesi facility and transported to the site in segments.
