Berge Danuta

Berge Danuta

Bergesen d.y. ASA of Norway is the world’s largest operator of liquefied gas carriers with a fleet of more than a hundred such ships. Many of these gas carriers are in the very large LPG carrier segment (those larger than 70,000 m3). The 78,500 m3 liquefied gas carriers Berge Danuta and her sister Berge Denise are designed for the carriage of the usual range of liquefied petroleum gases, propane, butane, etc., as well as ammonia, at temperatures down to -50 °C.

Wärtsilä solution
Delivered in November 2000, Berge Danuta is propelled by a Wärtsilä RTA68T-B low-speed marine diesel engine. It has a maximum continuous power output of 17,640 kW at 94 rpm.

Additional economy is obtained by waste heat recovery. The exhaust gases from the main engine pass through an economizer to generate steam for a 1000 kWe turbogenerator. This is sufficient to supply the normal electrical load at sea.
