Operations & Maintenance agreement reference

O&M reference PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam), IndonesiaCustomer
PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) is a public company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange since August 1999.
Antam has more than three decades of experience as a minerals producer. Its diversified business ranges from exploration and mining, to smelting and refining precious metals. Antam is a major player in the global mining industry and a leader in Indonesia's resurgent mining sector.
The new power plant supplied by Wärtsilä, beside the existing one installed by another engine manufacturer years ago, is part of a major expansion project at the Pomalaa site. Antam has been operating two ferronickel smelters and has completed, across 2004 and beginning of 2005, a third smelter in order to reach an overall production capacity of 26,000 tons of nickel.
The power plant provides an independent power supply system to cover all the energy needs of the mine and smelters. The award of the O&M contract to Wärtsilä conforms with Antam's general strategy of managing costs and encouraging growth, enabling Antam to concentrate its resources on the business of mining.

Wärtsilä solution
The new power plant operates on heavy fuel oil, but has the capability to be converted to run on natural gas at a later stage.
Wärtsilä is responsible for the plant's day-to-day operations 24/365, the plant's maintenance and the spare parts for the entire plant, as well as performance guarantees for availability, power output, fuel consumption and environmental control.
The partnership between Wärtsilä and Antam is further enhanced by the integration of Antam's current operating personnel into Wärtsilä's organization on site through a separate agreement running concurrently with the O&M contract. Integration of these employees ensures that the requirements of operation and maintenance outsourcing are met while maintaining local employment. It also contributes significantly to building a 'single family' concept.
The O&M contract gives Antam a business solution for controlling the power plant's performance through efficient asset management. Wärtsilä is not only maintaining Antam's asset but ensures that the plant operates at its optimum levels of performance, thus producing energy at the lowest possible cost for the owner.
