Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)

Selective Catalytic Reduction

The SCR process reduces NOX emissions to harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

Both diesel and gas engines can be equipped with SCR units. NOX emissions are typically reduced by 80-90 % by means for SCR techniques. Even up to 95 % reductions are achievable with more sophisticated control and bigger reactors.

The fuel oil quality is an important design parameter of SCR systems. Wärtsilä applies a robust durable design and efficient soot blowing for applications fired with high ash/sulphur fuel oils.

Reducing agent, ammonia or urea, of appropriate quality is required for the SCR process.

Features

  • SCR unit tailored for Wärtsilä gas or diesel engines and suited for the application
  • NOX reduction typically 80-90 %, with special arrangements even up to 95 %
  • Soot blowing is recommended for all diesel engine applications
  • No solid or liquid end-product produced
