Wärtsilä transverse thrusters can be equipped with fixed pitch or controllable pitch propellers. Their design and layout have been directed towards easy inspection and maintenance, which in turn leads to minimum maintenance costs.

Wärtsilä has standard eight transverse thruster types. Smallest propellerdiameter is 1.25 meter with steps of 0.25 meter up to 3.00 meter propellerdiameter. Transverse thruster power ranges from approx. 300kW up to maximum 3400kW.
Why TT?
- Ships want to be able to manoeuver in harbours without tug assistance
- Operating in harbours with the thruster inside the ship is not sensitive to damage
- Power and size of the thruster depends on the lateral area of the ship and the intended operation
- Maneuvering aid or DP operation is important for the selection
