Sludge and bilge water cleaning for marine

The Senitec MSB 1000 sludge and bilge water cleaning system

With regard to the environment, shipping is one of the most effective modes of transportation of goods and people. The Wärsilä Senitec M Series treatment system ensures that oil from sludge and bilge water does not end up in nature. The Wärtsilä Senitec M1000 and M2500 systems gives the operator effective control over all bilge and sludge media as well as over any discharges made into the sea.

Latest News:

Miljøfondet awards Wärtsilä Senitec status as approved environmental upgrade.
Wärtsilä Senitec M series has successfully passed USCG / IMO type approval

Benefits:

  • Approved according to IMO resolution MPEC 107(49)
  • Separates oil and emulsions effectively
  • Results clearly below legislative requirements
  • Reduces sludge / bilge disposal need

  • Awarded type approval for max 5 ppm oil in effluent by Bureau Veritas

Wärtsilä Senitec M Series is approved according to IMO resolution MPEC 107(49). The heart of the system is a groundbreaking separator which has been rigorously tested. Today, the Wärtsilä Senitec M1000 and M2500 are the most complete sludge and bilge treatment units on the market.

Shipping makes it possible to move large quantities of load with a minor impact on infrastructure. As one of the important actions for keeping the seas clean spills of fuel oil on board should end up in the sludge tank.

However, the mixture of fuel oils, lubricants, detergents, solvents and water often creates stable emulsions in the bilge water tanks. With an effective bilge water separator, oil and emulsions can be separated and treated and only clear water is discharged into the sea. Shipping companies also experience increasing costs for disposal and handling of sludge and bilge. Many separators of today require constant attention, which is both a cost and a safety problem, as valuable engineer time is removed from other important tasks.

A growing concern

Environmental issues are a growing concern for companies involved in shipping as well as for governments and global organisations. Different legislative actions also focus on keeping the seas clean. With the aid of the Wärtsilä Senitec M Series treatment system, the environmental aspects regarding sludge and bilge issues are easily handled with minimum impact for the operation staff and with results that surpasses the legislative requirements both of today and tomorrow.
